Eco-labelling in Fisheries [electronic resource] : What is it all
In Alaska, where the cultivation and farming of the ocean is known as mariculture, a growing number of women are farming shellfish and seaweed. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is investing resources in Alaska, a move seen helping move the state’s mariculture development forward. The agency has appointed a Regional Office Mariculture Coordinator for the Alaska region for the first time. Alaska’s Mariculture Initiative has a goal of building a $100-million industry 2016-10-28 Commercial mariculture of seaweeds in Alaska is in its infancy. Currently there are only a handful of farmers producing commercial amounts of seaweeds and almost all are kelp species.
